॥ Chapter 10, Shloka 36 ॥

द्यूतं छलयतामस्मि तेजस्तेजस्विनामहम् |
जयोऽस्मि व्यवसायोऽस्मि सत्त्वं सत्त्ववतामहम् || १०.३६ ||

Summary Translation:

I am the gambling of the deceitful, and I am the splendor of the splendid. I am victory, I am resolve, and I am the virtue of the virtuous.

Detailed Analysis:

In this profound verse, Krishna identifies the 'Theoretic Spectrum of Human Endeavor,' ranging from the dark to the light. He says, 'dyūtaṁ chhalayatām asmi'—among those who deceive (chhalayatām), I am Gambling (Dyutam). This is a startling revelation, as it indicates that even in the ' Mechanics of Deception,' the unpredictable outcome is a manifestation of Divine Will. Gambling represents the 'Apex of Risk and Uncertainty.' He continues, 'tejas tejasvinām aham'—I am the Splendor (Tejas) of the splendid. 'jayo ’smi'—I am Victory. 'vyavasāyo ’smi'—I am Resolve or determination. 'sattvaṁ sattvavatām aham'—and I am the Virtue or Goodness (Sattva) of those who possess goodness. This detailed analysis reveals that Krishna defines 'Success' not as a human product, but as the presence of God Himself. Whether it is the 'Jaya' (Victory) in battle or the 'Vyavasaya' (Business/Determination) in a task, the 'Theoretic Energy' driving it is Krishna. This shloka provides a ' Framework for Totality.' It teaches that nothing exists outside of the Divine influence. By including gambling, He shows that even in human vice, the 'Power to Lose or Win' is not in human hands but is a 'Divine Gamble.' This is the ' Goal of the Surrendered Seeker,' where 'The Outcome' is 'God'.

The detailed analysis of 'Jayo ’smi' (I am Victory) is the 'Theoretic Description of Conquest.' In our practical lives, we strive for success. Krishna is stating that the 'Moment of Triumph' is a spark of His being. Krishna is defining 'The Self' as the 'Splendor' (Tejas) that radiates from a charismatic leader. This shloka provides a 'Framework for the Ethics of Power.' It teaches that 'Sattva' (Goodness) is the Lord's own nature within the heart of the righteous. Krishna is defining 'Vyavasāya' as the ' Unwavering Focus' required for any great achievement. This verse is the ' Proof that the Lord is the engine of all effort and the result of all action.' By listing these five, He covers 'Chance,' 'Radiance,' 'Result,' 'Effort,' and 'Quality.' This shloka is the 'Universal Manual for Neutralizing the Ego,' forcing us to realize that 'If we win, it is He; if we have the will to fight, it is He; and if we shine, it is His light'. This is the ' Goal of the Resolute Seeker,' where 'The Determination' is 'Divine'.
