॥ Chapter 11, Shloka 18 ॥

त्वमक्षरं परमं वेदितव्यं त्वमस्य विश्वस्य परं निधानम् |
त्वमव्यय: शाश्वतधर्मगोप्ता सनातनस्त्वं पुरुषो मतो मे || ११.१८ ||

Summary Translation:

You are the supreme indestructible objective. You are the ultimate resting place of all this universe. You are inexhaustible, and You are the oldest. You are the maintainer of the eternal religion, the Personality of Godhead. This is my opinion.

Detailed Analysis:

Arjuna identifies the 'Theoretic Philosophical Identity of the Vision.' He declares, 'tvam akṣharaṁ paramaṁ veditavyaṁ'—You are the Supreme (paramam) Indestructible (akṣharaṁ) to be known (veditavyaṁ). This analysis focuses on the 'Theoretic Goal of all Scripture.' The Vedas exist to help one 'Know' this Akshara. He continues, 'tvam asya viśhvasya paraṁ nidhānam'—You are the ultimate 'Nidhāna' (Resting Place/Substratum) of this universe. This detailed analysis reveals that Arjuna defines the Lord as the ' Foundation' of reality. He calls Him 'avyayaḥ' (inexhaustible) and 'śhāśhvata-dharma-goptā'—the protector of the eternal religion (Dharma). Most importantly, he says 'sanātanas tvaṁ puruṣho mato me'—In my opinion (mato me), You are the Ancient (Sanatana) Person (Purusha). This shloka provides a ' Framework for the Continuity of Spirit.' It teaches that while the 'Form' (Vishvarupa) changes and moves, the 'Essence' (Akshara) remains forever. Arjuna is telling Krishna that 'I now understand through direct experience what the Upanishads were trying to say; You are the One who never dies.' This is the ' Goal of the Wise Seeker,' where 'The Truth' is 'Confirmed'.

The detailed analysis of 'Śhāśhvata-dharma-goptā' (Protector of Eternal Dharma) is the 'Theoretic Description of Divine Governance.' In our practical lives, laws change and fail. Arjuna is stating that the Lord is the ' Guardian' of the moral order. Krishna is defining 'The Self' as the 'Indestructible Person.' This shloka provides a 'Framework for the Finality of Knowledge.' It teaches that once the 'Purusha' is seen, there is nothing else 'Veditavyaṁ' (to be known). Arjuna is defining 'Nidhānam' as the ' Home' to which every soul eventually returns. This verse is the ' Proof that the Lord is the substance of the world.' By listing 'Indestructible, Resting Place, and Protector,' he covers the 'Ontological Status' of the vision. This shloka is the 'Universal Manual for Confessing Faith,' forcing us to realize that 'God is the steady hand behind the shifting scenes of history'. This is the ' Goal of the Certain Seeker,' where 'The Faith' is 'Localized'.
