Summary Translation:
The Blessed Lord said: Time I am, the great destroyer of the worlds, and I am come here to destroy all people. With the exception of you [the Pandavas], all the soldiers here on both sides will be slain.
Krishna identifies the 'Theoretic Revelation of His Identity as Time.' He declares 'kālo ’smi'—I am Time. This analysis focuses on the 'Theoretic Ontology of Kala.' Time is described as 'loka-kṣhaya-kṛit' (destroyer of worlds) and 'pravṛiddhaḥ' (full-grown/mighty). This detailed analysis reveals that Krishna defines 'Time' as an active, 'Pravṛittaḥ' (engaged) force whose purpose is 'lokān samāhartum'—to swallow or gather back the worlds. This shloka provides a ' Framework for the Inevitability of Destruction.' Krishna is answering Arjuna's question about his 'Purpose' (Pravritti) by stating that the process of dissolution is already 'In Motion.' Most crucially, He tells Arjuna: 'ṛite ’pi tvāṁ na bhaviṣhyanti sarve'—even without you (your participation), all these warriors standing in the opposing armies will cease to exist. This shloka is the ' Goal of the Disillusioned Seeker,' where 'The Outcome' is 'Localized'.
The detailed analysis of 'Kāla' (Time) is the 'Theoretic Description of the Ultimate Law.' In our practical lives, we think we have the power to 'Save' or 'Kill.' Krishna is defining 'The Self' as the 'True Actor' who has already decided the fate of the Kurukshetra war. This shloka provides a 'Framework for the Removal of Guilt.' By saying 'Even without you,' Krishna is removing the ' Burden' of killing from Arjuna's shoulders. The 'Destroyer' is not Arjuna; the 'Destroyer' is Time. Arjuna is defining 'Sarve' (All) as the ' Scope' of the Lord's current work. This verse is the ' Proof that human agency is secondary to divine timing.' By declaring 'Kalo ’smi,' he covers the 'Temporal Aspect' of the Absolute. This shloka is the 'Universal Manual for Detachment from Results,' forcing us to realize that 'The script of history is already written in the ink of Time'. This is the ' Goal of the Surrendered Seeker,' where 'The Necessity' is 'Localized'.
