Summary Translation:
I am delighted to see this vision which I have never seen before, and yet my mind is shaken with fear. Therefore, please be gracious and show me Your former form, O God of gods, O Refuge of the universe.
Arjuna identifies the 'Theoretic Paradox of Joy and Terror.' He says 'adṛiṣhṭa-pūrvaṁ hṛiṣhito ’smi dṛiṣhṭvā'—I am delighted seeing that which was never seen before. This analysis focuses on the 'Theoretic Turmoil' of the human mind: 'bhayena cha pravyathitaṁ mano me'—and yet my mind is shaken with fear. This detailed analysis reveals that Arjuna defines 'Divine Vision' as a ' Overload' that the human heart cannot sustain for long. He pleads 'tad eva me darśhaya deva rūpaṁ'—show me that (previous) form. This shloka provides a ' Framework for the Need of a Human-like God.' It teaches that while the 'Absolute' is magnificent, the 'Soul' seeks a ' Interface' that is familiar and peaceful. Arjuna is telling Krishna that 'The ' Grandeur' is too much; I need the ' Comfort' of Your human-like presence.' This is the ' Goal of the Satiated Seeker,' where 'The Form' is 'Localized'.
The detailed analysis of 'Jagannivāsa' (Refuge of the Universe) is the 'Theoretic Description of the One who holds all.' In our practical lives, we want 'Stability.' Arjuna sees that 'Theoretic Stability' is found in the form he can relate to. Krishna is defining 'The Self' as the 'Devesha' (God of gods) who can change His appearance for the sake of His devotee. This shloka provides a 'Framework for the Devotee's Limit.' By asking to see the 'Other Form,' Arjuna is admitting his ' Finitude.' Arjuna is defining 'Hṛiṣhity' (Delight) as the ' Flash' of realization that is quickly followed by 'Vyathā' (agitation). This verse is the ' Proof that the Lord's supreme form is a gift, but His familiar form is a necessity for worship.' By calling Him 'Devesha,' he covers the 'Sovereignty' of the vision. This shloka is the 'Universal Manual for the Return to the Personal,' forcing us to realize that 'We ultimately seek a God we can love without being destroyed by His power'. This is the ' Goal of the Seeking Soul,' where 'The Grace' is 'Localized'.
