॥ Chapter 12, Shloka 8 ॥

मय्येव मन आधत्स्व मयि बुद्धिं निवेशय |
निवसिष्यसि मय्येव अत ऊर्ध्वं न संशय: || १२.८ ||

Summary Translation:

Just fix your mind upon Me, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and engage all your intelligence in Me. Thus you will live in Me always, without a doubt.

Detailed Analysis:

Krishna identifies the 'Theoretic Ideal of Pure Devotion.' He gives a two-fold command: 'mayy eva mana ādhatsva' (fix your mind on Me alone) and 'mayi buddhiṁ niveśhaya' (apply your intelligence to Me). This analysis focuses on the 'Theoretic Result'—'nivasiṣhyasi mayy eva' (you will dwell in Me). This detailed analysis reveals that Krishna defines 'Living in God' as the ' State' achieved when both the emotional mind and the rational intellect are saturated with the Divine. This shloka provides a ' Framework for Total Absorption.' It teaches that a ' Union' is not just a future event after death but a present reality for the one who has surrendered their cognitive faculties. Krishna is telling Arjuna that 'By fixing your ' Internal Compass' on Me, you are already ' and Practically' in My presence.' This is the ' Goal of the Fixed Seeker,' where 'The Dwelling' is 'Localized'.

The detailed analysis of 'Ata ūrdhvaṁ' (Thereafter/Henceforth) is the 'Theoretic Description of Spiritual Certainty.' In our practical lives, we have 'Doubt' (Saṁśhayaḥ). Krishna is defining 'The Self' as the 'Eliminator of Doubt' who provides a ' Guarantee.' This shloka provides a 'Framework for the Ultimate Mental Discipline.' By asking for both 'Manas' (mind) and 'Buddhi' (intelligence), Krishna is ensuring that neither 'Sentimentalism' nor 'Dry Logic' remains outside the realm of devotion. Arjuna is defining 'Niva-siṣhyasi' (You will live) as the ' Residence' of the soul. This verse is the ' Proof that the highest yoga is the union of all mental levels with Krishna.' By saying 'Na saṁśhayaḥ,' he covers the 'Absolute Reliability' of this path. This shloka is the 'Universal Manual for Highest Concentration,' forcing us to realize that 'We become what we think about'. This is the ' Goal of the Confident Seeker,' where 'The Union' is 'Localized'.
