यदा सत्त्वे प्रवृद्धे तु प्रलयं याति देहभृत्।
तदोत्तमविदां लोकानमलान्प्रतिपद्यते।। १४.१४ ।।

Summary Translation:

When one dies in the mode of goodness, he attains to the pure higher planets of the great sages.

Detailed Analysis:

In this shloka, Lord Krishna explains the Destination of a soul that leaves the body when Sattva Guna is dominant. He states that when the dehabhrt (the embodied soul) meets pralayam (death) during the pravrddhe (prevalence) of Sattva, it प्रतिपद्यते (attains) the amalân lokân (spotless worlds) of the uttamavidam (knowers of the highest). This analysis presents death as a Transition based on Consciousness. The state of mind at the moment of death is the Sum of one's lifelong Habits. If a person has Cultivated Sattva—purity, wisdom, and devotion—their Frequency at the time of death matches the Purity of the higher celestial realms (Deva-lokas). These spotless worlds are Free from the Taints of passion and ignorance. In a religious sense, this shloka provides a Motivation for Purity. It teaches that our Future is not accidental but Earned. The Uttamavidam mentioned here are the great sages and enlightened beings. Attaining their Company is a high Achievement. The detailed interpretation emphasizes that amalân (spotless) refers to the Clarity of these higher worlds, where the Obstacles to spiritual growth are minimal. For a devotee, this is a Promise that their Efforts in this life will result in a Promotion to a better environment for final liberation. Krishna is Assuring Arjuna that the Quality of his Spirit at the moment of departure determines his Next Step. This shloka thus serves as a Compass for the End-of-Life preparation, emphasizing that one must Live in Sattva to Die in Sattva.
