Chapter 16, Shloka 8

असत्यमप्रतिष्ठं ते जगदाहुरनीश्वरम्।
अपरस्परसम्भूतं किमन्‍यत्कामहैतुकम्।। १६.८ ।।

Summary Translation:

They say that this world is unreal, with no foundation, no God in control. They say it is produced of sex desire and has no cause other than lust.

Detailed Analysis:

This shloka highlights the Atheism and Nihilism of the demonic nature. Demonic individuals claim the world is Asatyam (unreal) and Anishwaram (without a God). This Viewpoint is Dangerous because it removes the Moral Foundation of existence. By asserting that the world is Apratishtham (without foundation), they Deny the Order established by the Supreme Lord. The analysis shows that their belief in Kama-haitukam (lust as the only cause) is a Error that leads to Materialism. For a Hindu, this is the height of Illusion (Maya), as it ignores the Reality that the world is a manifestation of Divine Energy. Krishna is Identifying that this Philosophy is used by the demonic to Justify their Hedonism. The Significance of this verse is that it exposes the Roots of atheistic thought, which views life as a Accident rather than a Gift. This Delusion causes the soul to become Entangled in temporary desires. Krishna’s Diagnosis proves that without a Connection to the Creator, the Soul feels Lost. This verse thus provides a Warning against the Pitfalls of thinking that life has no Purpose beyond Gratification. It reinforces the Necessity of recognizing the Divine as the Anchor of all reality.
