Chapter 16, Shloka 9

एतां दृष्टिमवष्टभ्य नष्टात्मानोऽल्पबुद्धयः।
प्रभवन्त्युग्रकर्माणः क्षयाय जगतोऽहिताः।। १६.९ ।।

Summary Translation:

Following such conclusions, the demoniac, who are lost to themselves and who have no intelligence, engage in unbeneficial, horrible works meant to destroy the world.

Detailed Analysis:

In this verse, Lord Krishna explains the Consequence of the demonic worldview. By holding onto Falsehoods, they become Nashtatmano (lost to themselves). This Self-Loss occurs because they have severed their Connection with the Supreme Soul. The analysis reveals that being Alpa-buddhayah (of meager intelligence) means they lack Spiritual Wisdom. This Ignorance drives them to Ugra-karmanah (horrible or cruel works). For a Hindu, these Actions are Sinful because they are meant for the Kshayaya (destruction) of the world. Krishna is Warning us that a godless Perspective leads to Chaos and global Suffering. The Significance of this shloka is that it identifies the Danger of atheistic Materialism. These individuals become Enemies of the Cosmic Order (Dharma). Krishna’s Diagnosis proves that Arrogance combined with Ignorance results in Ruin. This verse thus serves as a Warning for the seeker to remain Aligned with the welfare of all beings. It establishes that Spirituality is Necessary to maintain World Peace and Prosperity.
