काममाश्रित्य दुष्पूरं दम्भमानमदान्विताः।
मोहाद्गृहीत्वासद्ग्राहान्प्रवर्तन्तेऽशुचिव्रताः।। १६.१० ।।
Summary Translation:
Taking shelter of insatiable lust and absorbed in the conceit of pride and false prestige, the demoniac, thus illusioned, are always sworn to unclean work, attracted by the impermanent.
This verse provides a Description of the Bondage of the demonic. Krishna explains that they take shelter of Kama (insatiable lust), which is Dushpuram (impossible to satisfy). This Obsession is Corruptive. They are Blinded by Dambha (hypocrisy), Mana (false pride), and Mada (conceit). The analysis reveals that their Vows (Vrata) are Ashuchi (unclean) because they are rooted in Greed rather than Sacrifice. For a Hindu, being Mohat (illusioned) leads to Asad-grahan (accepting impermanent or evil things as ultimate truth). Krishna is Identifying that this Misalignment is the Root of their Degradation. The Significance of this shloka is that it shows how Desires can Trap a soul in Darkness. Their Ego becomes their Master, leading to Actions that are Sinful. Krishna’s Diagnosis proves that without Purity, the soul remains Distant from Bliss. This verse thus serves as a Warning against the Danger of material Attachment. It reinforces the Necessity of Discipline and Devotion to avoid such a Fate.
