अहङ्कारं बलं दर्पं कामं क्रोधं च संश्रिताः।
मामात्मपरदेहेषु प्रद्विषन्तोऽभ्यसूयकाः।। १६.१८ ।।
Summary Translation:
Bewildered by false ego, strength, pride, lust and anger, the demoniac person becomes envious of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is situated in his own body and in the bodies of others, and blasphemes against the real religion.
In this verse, Lord Krishna defines the Enmity of the demonic toward the Divine. They take shelter of Ahankara (false ego), Balam (brute strength), Darpam (pride), Kamam (lust), and Krodham (anger). This Alliance with lower qualities makes them Hostile. The analysis reveals that they Pradvishanto (hate) and Abhyasuyakah (envy) the Supreme Lord who is Situated in their own bodies and the bodies of others as the Supersoul (Paramatma). This Hatred is Irrational because they are Attacking the very source of their own life. For a Hindu, this is the Peak of demonic behavior—blaspheming the Truth. Krishna is Identifying that Ego creates a Veil that hides the presence of God. The Significance of this shloka is that it shows how Envy leads to Blasphemy. Krishna’s Diagnosis proves that the demonic Resent the Authority of the Lord. They Object to any System that places them below a Higher Power. This Rebellion is Destructive. The Lesson here is that Love for all beings is Required to honor the God within. Krishna Guides us to see the Divinity in everyone. This verse serves as a Warning against the Poison of envy. It reinforces the Necessity of recognizing the Supersoul. Ultimately, Salvation is Impossible as long as one Hates the Lord’s Presence in creation.
